MRTG

MRTG (Multi Router Traffic Grapher) Monitoring provides a convenient way for users to monitor the bandwidth usage and to examine the possible occurring of a malicious attack (e.g. virus, hackers, etc.). MRTG Monitoring offers to users two kinds of information: Traffic MRTG and Session MRTG.

Traffic MRTG (Graph 1)

Traffic MRTG records a user's download and upload throughput up to a maximum time period of one month. By simply selecting the time scale (2 hours, 1 day, 1 week, or 1 month), users are able to see the statistics of current, maximum, average throughput, along with the total traffic summary.

Session MRTG (Graph 2)

On the other hand, Session MRTG analyzes a user's network usage in terms of session types. These include TCP, UDP, ICMP session, and a user's total session numbers.

The Benefits

MRTG is an easy but clear presentation for users to understand how the bandwidth is consumed and what potential problems potentially exist. Furthermore, MRTG helps network administrators understand the efficiency of the bandwidth usage and also plan the bandwidth demand in advance.
